Soul music, Austrian style. Anton Bruckner heard the beginning of his Seventh Symphony in a dream, played by an angel. You’ll realize why when you hear its soaring opening theme: and that’s just the beginning of one of romantic music’s most personal journeys - a world of sunlit mountain peaks and dark shadows, lilting waltz-tunes and blazing glory. Markus Stenz is one of the world’s finest living Bruckner interpreters, and he’s chosen to pair it with Robert Schumann’s darkly poetic Cello Concerto of 1850. This is Schumann as dreamer: not so much a showpiece, as a confession from the composer’s tender, profoundly Romantic heart. Soloist Alban Gerhardt understands it intimately.
