As both conductor and violinist, Thomas Zehetmair is an inspiration on every level. “Zehetmair seems to find answers where other musicians don’t even see questions” says Andrew McGregor of the BBC–but the best way to appreciate what he does is to experience it for yourself. Today, Zehetmair is both director and soloist in Mozart’s delightful G major Violin Concerto – exactly as Mozart himself would have been. And he brings a virtuoso’s insight and flair to two very different Romantic masterworks. Schoenberg’s Verklaerte Nacht tells a story of forbidden love in music of melting beauty and burning passion. Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” symphony shows a young composer on his travels: painting the landscape of the Scottish Highlands in luminous musical watercolours.
