The Czech people have suffered much over the centuries, but through it all they’ve kept a lust for life, a love for small pleasures, and an unquenchable, sometimes outrageously earthy, sense of humour. It’s all there in this magical programme from the SPO’s chamber players. Janacek’s “Fairy Tale” leads us into a world of fantasy and imagination; then enjoy the intimate charm of Dvorak’s Terzetto  written for the composer to play with friends at home - and the quiet poetry of the Elegy by his son-in-law Josef Suk. And finally, discover the boldness, invention, and exuberant human spirit of two neglected mini-masterpieces by Erwin Schulhoff and Hans Krasa, composers who were both murdered by the Nazis. Their music speaks with a voice that can’t be ignored.
