Holst, The Planets Op. 32
Total Duration: 117 mins(incl. intermission)
Everyone has their favourite bit of The Planets, whether it’s the warlike rhythms of Mars, the rapturous calm of Venus, or the melody and majesty of Jupiter. But Holst’s masterpiece is a lot more than just magnificent tunes – it’s a voyage to the outer reaches of the human spirit. Tonight, British conductor Michael Francis takes the Seoul Philharmonic to infinity and beyond, in a musical odyssey that begins in the luminous half-lights of Debussy’s exquisite Nocturnes, before artist-in-residence Ian Bostridge dives even deeper into the night with a rare Korean performance of Britten’s extraordinary Nocturne: poetry by Shakespeare, Shelley and Tennyson like you’ve never heard it before. And then, we’re off to the stars…
