Francesco Piemontesi is the name that every piano fan is talking about right now – and it’s no wonder. “Piemontesi combines stunning technique with an intellectual capacity that few can match” wrote The Spectator, and this young Italian protégé of Alfred Brendel simply has it all. We’re delighted to welcome him to Seoul in two playful – yet neglected – gems: César Franck’s fantastical Symphonic Variations and Richard Strauss’s uproarious Burleske. We think he’ll set them alight! First, though, Asher Fisch revels in the drama of Schumann’s only operatic overture - and then the Seoul Philharmonic relaxes on the sunlit slopes of Brahms’s Second Symphony. Brahms was on holiday when he wrote it - and you can tell.
