Good things come in small packages, and with just a handful of musicians, the possibilities are limitless. So when Roland Kluttig conducts some of the Seoul Philharmonic’s best players in a whole evening of contemporary music, it’ll sound both as free and inventive as jazz, and as delicately coloured and exquisitely detailed as a piece of fine jewellery. But each of these composers - whether the 20thcentury Romanian master George Enescu, the Italian sonic poet Franco Donatoni, the late Friedrich Goldman (described as “the best-kept secret of modern German music”) or the rising young Korean star Jihyun Kim - shares the same goal: to create something honest, beautiful and new.
