Certainly I could, but I must not” said Anton Bruckner. “How could I stand before Almighty God, if I followed the others and not Him?” Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony is one of the grandest and greatest masterpieces in all music, a vision of the eternal, composed for an enormous orchestra. But it’s much more than just one man’s spiritual odyssey; it’s one of Romantic music’s most overwhelming experiences, profoundly moving and breathtakingly beautiful. Guest conductor Antony Hermus feels passionately about it, and it’ll make a noble counterpart to the controlled darkness of Mozart’s brooding 20th Piano Concerto, performed by one of Austria’s most eloquent and insightful living pianists.
