Schumann, Symphony No. 1, Op. 38 'Spring'

Total Duration: around 100 mins(incl. intermission)

“When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding / Sweet lovers love the spring”. Shakespeare’s words could be the motto for Robert Schumann’s “Spring” Symphony. Schumann was young, gifted, and madly in love with the beautiful young pianist Clara Wieck so when he overcame her family’s objections and finally married her, his happiness simply bubbled over. The result is one of the freshest, sweetest and most romantic symphonic debuts by any great composer, and from its jubilant opening fanfares to its triumphant close, guest conductor John Storgårds simply adores it. You will too.
