Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, Choral

Amidst an eerie stillness, a solitary trumpet asks the eternal question and in Charles Ives’s miniature masterpiece The Unanswered Question, there’s no easy resolution. But Ludwig van Beethoven saw things differently, and from tragic opening to climactic, heaven-storming “Ode to Joy”, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is more than just the most influential symphony ever written: it’s a manifesto for a better world. For this final concert of our season, Markus Stenz has assembled a chorus drawn from three of Korea’s very best choirs, and a world-class line-up of soloists - all united in Beethoven’s great hymn to tolerance, unity and hope. “I embrace you, oh you millions here’s a kiss for all the world!”
