A native of South Korea, violinist Yeon-Kyung Joo ,selected artist of Seoul Arts Center in 2013,has excited audiences both at home and abroad. As an accomplished soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue; Ms. Joo is recognized as a virtuoso with an understanding of music that has matured beyond her years. She has appeared in concert venues in Korea, Japan, and in Europe. Gold medalist of the Strad Magazine competition, Ms. Joo has received many accolades in numerous competitions. She is 1st prize winner of the Mid Texas Young Artist competition , 3rd prize winner of Athur Balsam Duo Competition, winner of JM Audition for Young Artists, Chun-chu Competition, and KumHo Young Artist Audition. Ms. Joo is also prize winner of competitions such as the World Symphony, Seoul Symphony, and Korea Times competitions.

As a soloist, Ms. Joo has appeared with orchestras such as KBS symphony orchestra, the Mid Texas Symphony Orchestra, YeonSe Symphonieta, Seoul National Orchestra, and the Su-Won Symphony Orchestra. Upon winning the KumHo Young Artist Competition and the JM Audition for Young Artists, Ms. Joo was invited to appear in recital series such as the JM Debut Series. Since then, she has appeared as recitalist to much critical acclaim.

An avid chamber musician, Ms. Joo ,as a member of Trio Philia, won the ArtSylvia audition and will be supported by the management for one year. Trio philia also was invited by Park Chang soo House Concert. She has enjoyed collaborations with even some of today’s most respected musicians. She has been guest artist with the Seoul String Quartet, and has given concerts in the Seoul National Arts Center, the cultural center of Korea. In 2002, Ms. Joo was chosen to tour Japan with Mendelssohn’s String Octet. She has received coaching from James Dunham and Lynn Harrell. Recently, her interest in chamber music has led to collaboration with cellist, Lynn Harrell on the Schubert String Quintet.

Ms. Joo has participated in master classes with internationally acclaimed artists as ,Elmar Oliviera,Zakar Bron, Cho-Liang Lin, Paul Katz, Donald Weilerstein, Roberts Mann, and David Kim. Her past teachers have included Sung-Ju Lee and Nam-Yun Kim.. Participation in music festivals have led her to study with great performers and teachers as Ilya Kaler and Masuko Ushioda. Upon culminating her undergraduate degree at the Korean National University of the Arts with Sung-Ju Lee, Master’s degree at Rice University with Sergiu Luca where she is concertmaster of the Shepherd Symphony and recipient of the Dorothy Richard Starling Scholarship, and Larry J. Livingston prize for violin. She went on to study with Sylvia Rosenberg for Professional studies diploma in Violin Performance at Manhattan School of Music. Currently she is undergoing her Doctorate diploma at Seoul National University as well as being a associate principal of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of Joo trio,Trio Philia and We soloists.
