1st Violin
Jiyun Han 한지연
(Principal)Jiyun Han was born in Seoul, Korea and moved with her family to Germany at the age of three. She first learned the violin at the age of 7 and started performing at the age of 8, in venues including the Altes Rathaus and Stadthalle in Goettingen, Germany.
During her years in Germany she was invited multiple times by the Goettingen Symphony Orchestra to perform in Goettingen and around Lower Saxony. In 1997, she was invited to the Classix! Festival (former Braunschweiger Kammermusikpodium) and performed with the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Staatstheater Braunschweig and Magdeburg. Other appearances with orchestra include Goettingen Youth Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, U of Kansas Orchestra, Aloysius Orchestra and Gangneung Youth Orchestra.
Her appearances were heard and seen on Middle German Radio, Radio Berlin, KBS Busan and a chamber recording on Naxos.
She was awarded prizes from Jugend Musiziert competitions in Germany at age 8 and 10, 4th International Leopold Mozart Violin Competition at age 15, Woolsey Concerto Competition in 2009 and the Yale Alumni Association Prize in the same year as well as the Broadus Erle Violin Prize.
In 2010-11 she played with the Sejong Soloists in USA and at their residency at Great Mountains Festival, where she also performed in the "Rising Star Series" and was concertmaster of its Festival Orchestra.
She received lessons from Prof. Jens Ellermann at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater in Hannover. After her Bachelor’s degree at Juilliard, she continued her studies with Prof. Hyo Kang at the Yale School of Music, where she earned her Master’s degree and Artist Diploma.
