A violin sighs quietly in the twilight, a piano trails behind, and a horn begins an old, sad song. Johannes Brahms discovered that when you put these three instruments together, you create a special kind of poetry, and his beautiful, intensely personal Horn Trio is the climax of this chamber programme chosen by our special guest, international star horn player Jasper de Waal. The lovely Serenade by Brahms’s great friend Dvořák is as playful as the Trio is romantic; de Waal leads the fun today, and joins a team of SPO wind players for a close encounter with a lively young genius called Ludwig van Beethoven.
