Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30
Rachmaninoff, Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 44

Eun Sun Kim is a Korean conductor who’s making history: recently named by the New York Times as one of the decade’s “breakout stars”. Stephen Hough is a piano virtuoso whose gorgeous sound and boundless technique is matched by an intellect so powerful that he’s been awarded a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant”. Combine the two in Rachmaninoff’s mighty Third Piano Concerto—the so-called “Everest of piano concertos”—and this is likely to be a performance to remember. So how to follow that? Eun Sun Kim dives into the sumptuous bittersweet world
of Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony: a song of exile in full symphonic colour.
