It began as a game, as Edward Elgar composed miniature musical portraits of his friends and family, and challenged his wife to guess who they were! Those playful miniatures grew into the Enigma Variations: a masterpiece like no other, charged with tenderness and wit, and containing - at its heart - the unforgettable Nimrod. It’s a wonderful way to get to know our guest conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya, in his SPO debut; first, though, comes a burst of celebration from Peru’s most respected living composer, and the endless serenity of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, performed by one of Korea’s true musical superstars.
