Tonight the Seoul Philharmonic reaches for the stars. Gustav Holst’s Planets suite is one of everyone’s favourite classics. But if you’ve only heard the famous bits, you only know half the story. The Planets isn't just about great tunes like Jupiter and Mars; it's a musical voyage towards the infinite, written for a super-size orchestra and filled with sounds of jaw-dropping wonder and beauty. It’s a visionary finale to a concert that begins with Brett Dean’s dark, brilliant portrait of a doomed cosmonaut, and features the very natural - and very poetic – beauty of Elgar’s Cello Concerto, played by Chinese cello legend Jian Wang.
