Some artists just strike sparks off each other. Put the dynamic Russian maestro Vasily Petrenko together with the dazzling Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski and things tend to catch fire—no wonder critics have called them a “dream team”! Today they join forces with the Seoul Philharmonic to play Brahms’s tremendous First Piano Concerto, a volcanic outpouring of raw emotion from a young genius with a broken heart. This should be quite a ride: but don’t worry, there’ll be a chance to relax after the interval when Petrenko conducts the happiest symphony by Brahms’s great friend Dvořák. It’s pure musical sunshine.
