Mozart played both the viola and the violin, so it’s no surprise that his string quintets are some of the most personal music he ever wrote, as enjoyable to play as they are to listen to. As a master-violinist trained in the great Austro-German tradition, Christian Tetzlaff understands that, and today he joins a team of Seoul Philharmonic string players in Mozart’s heartfelt G minor Quintet (possibly the greatest of all his chamber works), as well as Brahms’s gloriously lush Second String Sextet: music of lilting melodies and rich autumn colours. We get to share the pleasure: it doesn’t get much better than this.
