Non Allegro
Andante con moto. (Tempo di Valse)
Lento assai — Allegro vivace
Total duration around 90 mins(incl. intermission)Long Yu is a legend of western classical music in China—a conductor of vast authority and boundless energy, in demand across Asia and the world. Ning Feng is China’s supreme living exponent of the violin; in the words of The Strad, he’s “a violinist who holds a universe in his hands”.
And today they each perform for the first time with the SPO, in an all-Russian programme that positively glitters with colour and energy. Ning Feng plays Prokofiev’s tangy, songful Second Violin Concerto. Long Yu frames it with the serenity of Mussorgsky’s Prelude to Khovanshchina, and Rachmaninoff’s flamboyant Symphonic Dances.
