The poetry of W. B. Yeats. The raw, impassioned music of Alban Berg. Those are the twin inspirations behind Upon His Ghostly Solitude, the latest masterpiece from Donghoon Shin - specially created for the Seoul Philharmonic and two other leading orchestras. Tonight, you can be among the first to hear it; a magical upbeat to an evening of music-making at its most emotive, as Jaap van Zweden conducts Rachmaninoff’s best-loved symphony, and Korean violin phenomenon Bomsori Kim makes her first ever appearance with the orchestra. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is one of the world’s favourites—but you’ve never heard it played quite like this.
