Korean bass Kihwan Sim has established himself as one of the leading basses of his generation, performing at some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

In 2022, he was featured as the bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem for the opening concert of the BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall, one of the most renowned classical music festivals in the world. His recent performances also include appearances at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland, Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, a recital at Musashino Hall in Tokyo, performances with the La Verdi Orchestra at the Auditorium di Milano, and collaborations with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, as well as with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra as the bass soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Sim made his highly acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut as Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, followed by invitations from leading opera companies worldwide, including the Royal Opera House in London, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, and Opéra de Nice.

A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Sim has been recognized with numerous international awards, including First Prize at the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition in Helsinki and First Prize at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin International Competition in Paris.

He is currently a principal soloist at the Oper Frankfurt, where he performs leading bass roles in major productions such as Aida, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, La Bohème, Don Carlo, Rigoletto, I vespri siciliani, and Ernani.
