Piano,Ljupka Hadzigeorgieva

Ljupka Hadzigeorgieva, born in Bogdanci (Macedonia), began her studies in Skopje and Zagreb and was, at the age of sixteen, the youngest person to receive a State scholarship to go to Moscow, where she studied at the renowned Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Her teachers included Vera Khoroshina, Lev Naumov and Alexei Lyubimov. She won numerous national and international prizes as a soloist and appeared both with orchestras and as a chamber musician, particularly in the former Yugoslavia, the Russian Federation, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy and Germany. Soon after she had finished her studies she was a sought-after teacher, lecturing at various colleges in her native country.

Having met in Moscow, Ljupka and her husband Evgeni Koroliov founded the Koroliov Duo in 1976. Just the very next year they won the Jeunesses musicales prize in Belgrade. A few years later, they performed at the International Duo Festival in Leningrad, where they won the 1st prize of the critics, the 1st prize of the audience and two special prizes. In 2000 at the International Duo Festival in Yekaterinburg (Russia) they won the prize of the Russian Composers’ Association for the best interpretation of 20th century music.

Their concerts have taken them all around Europe, including international festivals such as: Musikfest Stuttgart, MDR Musiksommer, Ludwigsburger Festspiele, Rheingau Musik Festival, Ohrid Summer Festival, the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Elba isola musicale d’Europa, Settembre Musica Torino.

Apart from the classical works, the duo’s repertoire includes numerous works of the 20th century. The wide repertoire is reflected also in the discography of the duo: Bach/Kurtág, Strawinsky, Wolfgang Plagge. Their acclaimed recording of works by Schubert won the Choc prize of Le Monde de la musique.

Bach concertos for two pianos and, with further partners, for three and four pianos are a highly estimated speciality of the Koroliov duo, performed on a tour with Helmuth Rilling and Bach Collegium Stuttgart as well as at the renound piano festival La Roque d’Anthéron in France.
