Suyeon Kang
ViolinSuyeon Kang - born in South
Korea and raised in Canada & Australia- has been based in Germany since
2007, where she enjoys a colourful musical life. She is especially recognised
for her intelligence and depth of interpretation as well as her expressive performances
‘ ..she captivated her audience-
intimacy, tension, inspiration and soul in every note,‘ (Der Tagesspiegel, Shostakowitsch Violin
Concerto).
Her unwavering curiosity for all areas of music making has led to a fulfilling
and multifaceted schedule and has shaped her enormous dexterity between disciplines; and her extensive
repertoire extends from baroque to avant-garde.
As a soloist, she has
performed with several chamber and symphonic orchestras worldwide, and is a major/
special- prizewinner of numerous prestigious international violin competitions
including: Michael Hill International Violin Competition (first prize &
audience prize), Yehudi Menuhin International Competition, as well as in
Buenos Aires, Bayreuth & Indianapolis. She was named Australian
Young Performer of the Year’ at the age of 16.
She is a co-founder of the Trio Boccherini (string trio), to whom she
dedicates much of her musical life. The trio recently released their debut
album of the integral Beethoven string trios, to much critical acclaim. Furthermore,
Suyeon is a popular guest artist in music festivals world-wide. Alone in
2021-2022 she was featured at Ernen Kammermusikplus; Demenga
Chamber Festival; GAIA Festival & Boswiler Sommer (Switzerland), SoNoRo Festival (Romania) Eggenfelden Klassisch,
Mai Klassik, & Herbstimmungen Rügen (Germany).
In 2021 she was appointed as concertmaster of the Kammerakademie Potsdam;
since 2017 she holds a post in the 15-member ensemble Camerata Bern. She
has appeared as a regular guest leader, also more freuqently in a Play/Direct
capacity, with several leading european chamber orchestras, including: Munich Chamber Orchestra, Baroque Orchestra of Sevilla, Deutsche
Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Ensemble Resonanz & WKO Heilbronn, CHAARTS
Chamber Artists.
Since 2016 she holds a post as teaching assistant to Prof. Antje Weithaas at
the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler.
