Seohyun Kim
Violin
Violinist Seohyun Kim, who became the youngest winner at the age of just 14 when she won the Tibor Varga International Competition in 2023, has made her name known as a rising star on theinternational stage. Prior to this, she had already taken the first prize at the Ysaÿe InternationalMusic Competition and Leonid Kogan International Violin Competition in 2021, and the CooperInternational Competition in 2022, also as the youngest ever.Born in 2008 in Seoul, South Korea, Seohyun performed as a soloist with orchestras and chamberensembles at the age of eight. She was a semi-finalist as the youngest participant at the age ofeleven in Menuhin Competition 2021, marking her first entry onto the international music stage.She debuted with the Kumho Young Artist Concert in 2020 and, in 2021, she performed inHungary with the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, and collaborated with numerous prestigiousorchestras in South Korea and abroad, including Canton Symphony Orchestra in the United States,Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Bursa Symphony Orchestra in Turkey, Seoul PhilharmonicOrchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, JeonjuPhilharmonic Orchestra, Mokpo Philharmonic Orchestra, Daejeon International Music FestivalOrchestra, and the Daegu Opera House. In addition, she held her U.S. debut recital at the DameMyra Hess Series in Chicago in 2023, and was invited again to the opening concert of the 2023/24season of the Canton Symphony Orchestra to perform the world premiere of a piece by composerJeff Scott.In 2024, she had a recital as a rising star artist at the Tongyeong International Music Festival, andshe also performed with Gidon Kremer, Miklós Perényi, and Lawrence Power at the ‘ChamberMusic Connects the World’ at the Kronberg Academy. During the summer, she toured five citiesin the Basque region of Spain with the Basque National Youth Orchestra and performed at theSion Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and the Zurich Conservatory in Switzerland. In 2025, sheis expected to appear as a soloist with the Pannon Philharmonic in Hungary, Tallinn NationalOrchestra in Estonia as well as the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She is also passionate aboutchamber music, and she will perform chamber music with Julia Fischer at the Tonhalle Zurich, andshe has been invited to several international chamber music festivals, where she will collaboratewith world-renowned musicians.Seohyun is currently studying with Sunny Lee at the Seoul Central Conservatory, and she is playingon G.B.Guadagnini(1753), generously sponsored by the Tibor Varga Family.
